They call it a levitating chair, a sophisticated wheel chair, without the wheels. The chair floats on a cushion, much like a hovercraft. That said, this is very much like a bumper car.

So, what are the upsides of this levitating chair over a wheelie wheel chair? Well, I guess its kinda cool, and it will certainly make your grandpa the coolest dude in town. But note, it can only carry up to 150kg, and it will not work on carpeted floors.

Sometimes, these technologies are meant to be kept in the closet, not in the market. A wheel chair seems to have a brighter future.

Dell Malaysia reports that 700 workers will be loosing their job, voluntarily via a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) exercise. The 700 that will be loosing their job will be of the Bukit Minyak plant. So, why is Dell doing this?

Dell is currently transferring the division that is currently manufacturing notebooks for Latin America, Canada and the US market to the group’s global manufacturing network. This of course cuts of a major production line. That said, the plant will remain in producing notebooks, desktops and servers for the Australian and South Asian market.

The current plant holds 4,500 workers, and with the VSS being implemented, Dell is looking at downsizing to 3,800 workers.

T. Kugan, Maxis’ Head of Product Development and Infotainment Services.

Because of the increasing mobile user (heavy users), Maxis sees a demand for mobile TV, and hence Dimensions was born. There will be 11 episodes and each episodes will be aired once a week. The cast for Dimensions derives from a group of seasoned and new actors, such as Dhanya Nambiar, Nur Hazwani, Ammar Alfian Aziz, Jehan Miskin, Ben Tan and Anne James.

Eric Foo, Astro New Business and Broadcast Services Sales Vice President

Press Release:

Kuala Lumpur, 12 Nov 2009 – Maxis Berhad (“Maxis”) today announced its partnership with Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd (“MBNS”), a subsidiary of Astro All Asia Networks plc (“Astro”), to introduce an entertainment innovation aimed at redefining the mobile entertainment experience in Malaysia.

The partnership will see the creation and delivery of rich mobile TV content such as custom-made video productions, as well as Astro’s Mobile TV channels, through Maxis’ content distribution channels – hence Dimensions, Malaysia’s first made-for-mobile entertainment series.

“Innovation has always been a driver of what we aim to deliver to our customers, and in partnership with Astro, we are delivering a next-generation product which will encourage further innovations. The ability to stream rich episode-based entertainment, like a TV mini-series, directly to mobile phones gives our customers more value in mobile entertainment”, said Jean-Pascal van Overbeke, Chief Operating Officer, Maxis Berhad.

“Dimensions is the first video medium of its kind in Malaysia, fashioned for personal mobile entertainment, provided free to Maxis and Hotlink customers with no data or download charges. The 11-episode science-fiction saga will be delivered weekly to customers who sign up by sending ON <space> DS to 22900. The series unfolds an epic story in a new format. It employs a new and fast-paced narrative style suited to mobile devices, to tell a contemporary Malaysian story weaving in local folklore and legends”, said T. Kugan, Maxis’ Head of Product Development and Infotainment Services.

“These episodes are available after November 11 to all Maxis and Hotlink subscribers, while all Malaysians can enjoy the series, and participate interactively in the unfolding storyline, through the Dimensions website (www.dimensions.com.my) and its associated Dimensions Facebook page”, Kugan added.

ASTRO’s Chief Technology Officer, Paul Dale, said that the partnership aligns with ASTRO’s focus on innovation. “At Astro we are driving innovation through our delivery of content and technology. We have been gradually moving towards offering a richer experience from TV screens to PCs and to mobile phones, as part of our delivery to full cross-platform multimedia entertainment. Astro through its Mobile TV business now offers over 20 channels in popular and specialized genres ranging from news and entertainment to music and sports. Today we’re adding to that range of choice and further pushing innovative possibilities, by bringing to you the first-of-its-kind Dimensions series through our Mobile TV service.”

Adds T. Kugan, “Maxis subscribers to the series will receive SMS alerts to the latest video and textual releases from the storyline, and through the WAP portal links contained in the SMS updates, be able also to participate in forums, download exclusive extras, and each create his own experience of the innovative series.”

Dimensions is now available for Maxis 3G and Astro Mobile TV subscribers to watch on their mobile devices, without incurring any download or data charges. iPhone users are able to watch Dimensions by streaming directly from the Dimensions WAP portal, a specially-created facility in conjunction with the release of the series. Fans are able to log on to the Dimensions Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dimensions/158595491835) as well as toDimensions on Twitter (www.twitter.com/DimensionsNews) to sign up for updates on the inter-reality Dimensions plot, to explore its personalities and to enjoy its promotions and contests.

It looks very much alike the MacBook Pro, and it also is pitching up with the MacBook Pro, if only it had an Apple logo on it, people might have thought that this is the new MacBook Pro. The HP Envy 15, a 15-inch goodness by HP. Dubbed as the world’s thinest quad-core laptop, at 5.2lbs, it is not exactly heavy.

HP is certainly designing beautiful computers, and this is nonetheless. It is paired with the 1.6GHz core i7, 6GB of RAM, 500GB 7200RPM HDD and a ATI Mobility Radeon 4830 (1GB RAM). The specs sound like a Ferrari Italia.

But too much disappointment, the battery life is a no go. Lasting for a maximum 2hr at full charge, this power mongrel needs a bigger battery pack.

With that said, this is one stunning looking machine and HP really is out there to stun the eyes of many. A MacBook Pro killer? Maybe not.

That said, Apple felt much of competition because of this, the whiz is Axiotron. He basically converted a MacBook into a Tablet computer with some tech love.

“Apple has acquired its TabletMac name in the last 12 months, with documents showing the registration request dated November 6th, 2008.” Said Gizmodo.

This very much allows us to anticipate the ever coming Mac Tablet, and it is certainly coming very soon.

It is true that the technology industry is facing strong competition, the only way to beat one another is to lower down the price and to pack the device with a whole load of feature, or you could just be Apple and price your phone and whatever price you like. Nokia and AT&T are suing an Asian LCD Manufacturer for price fixing. The November 25th filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco division, names Samsung Electronics, LG Display, Sharp, Hitachi, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes as co-conspirators.

Nokia’s margin is low, as their strategy shows strong market share, that’s their main focus. Nokia and AT&T are seeking for monetary compensation. Let’s hope it all turns out well.

When people brag about how crisp and clear the images they churn from their mobile phones, I tend to find the claim rather blarney. How can one take great pictures with a mobile device? Especially when the lens capacity is as small as a pin hole. So tell me, why would people take pictures with their mobile phone rather than a proper camera? I shall do some enlightenment right this instance.

First, a Sony with an Ericsson attached to it, that naturally makes it a good mobile phone + a very good media kit. With that said, most manufacturers do offer products of the same calibre, note the Nokia N82.

The C901 comes in a form of a candy bar, and it fits perfectly well in my pocket, really slim and sleek. The LCD screen works great under heavy sunlight and the keys are large enough (on a rather petite body) for large fingers. With it’s 5 mega-pixel camera located on the rear encase, it comes with a slide protector which is a rather good feature. The C901 is also equipped with an accelerometer, works really well with the Walkman. Disappointment comes in a form of “No Wi-Fi”. Well, all in all, it is very much a phone, one that is good enough to slip into many pockets on the street.

Function buttons are located on the right side of the phone and the charger and data connection port is located on the left side of the phone.

That said, there are a few problems with it. It might be software, once or twice a day, the phone randomly shuts down when sitting nicely in my pocket (key-pad locked), any idea with this one? Next, the battery life on this is certainly mediocre. Sony Ericsson boast this as an entertainment device with its awesome photography capability, well Mr Sony Ericsson, the battery can’t take anymore than a few phone calls and some text messages to the darling.

I have to say, after a few shots in the night with it’s built in Xenon flash, yes you heard it right, great flash, the low battery warning started to flicker. Hold it, not just flicker, at low battery, the warning sent out by the C901 is appalling, first it flashes the big low battery sign, and then it vibrates. I only got 3 warnings before the phone went into coma.

I have here a few sample pictures of the Sony Ericsson C901 camera capabilities:

Well, the pictures turn out rather grainy. But don’t forget it is still a camera phone, for quick and instant shoots, it works like a magic, but to replace a camera, that won’t happen. That said, the load time of the camera is slow, I recorded a full 8 second for its startup. Slow, very slow.

The C901 is a great looking phone, perfect functionality for everyday use. But with its Cyber-Shot genes, I can’t seem to find any closely related DNA. Yes, a phone that Sony Ericsson certainly positioned it in a wrong market all together. I wouldn’t spend my money on this, but this might turn out to be a great spare.

I used a flat head screwdriver, with a soft cloth over it. Prying it slowly on it’s side, the clips slowly pops up.

Slowly and carefully lifting it up, there will be a cable connected to the logic board. Again, use a flat head screwdriver and slowly pop it out of its socket.

The blue piece is the HDD
