Hood Airbag, Deemed Necessary
Airbag has become our daily need and necessity, and it’s nearly impossible for us to locate a new vehicle that doesn’t come equipped with one. Well for now, a bunch of boffins from Cranfield University thought that airbags should not be limited to passengers only, but also to pedestrians. They’ve developed a new hood-mounted airbag system that would improve the safety of pedestrians that comes hitting the vehicle, vice-versa. The U-shaped airbag hides away underneath the car’s hood, right below the base of the windshield, this doesn’t hamper the driver’s view.
Just before the impact, the airbag would deploy, and this would prevent pedestrians from making contact with the car’s windshield or the A-Pillars, the car’s hood would also rise to provide added crumple room over the engine compartment.
Statistics says that this will greatly reduce pedestrian injuries by 50%.
