The LG KF900 Prada Phone is seemingly a next generation fashion phone, but the question still lies within the core of the phone, will all the gizmos in it impress the users. The new update over its predecessor is major, with a new interface, better multimedia and of course, improved connectivity. That said, all the improvement doesn’t show on its exterior, as the new Prada 2 looks identical to the old one. But of course, with the QWERTY keypad on the Prada 2, that separates what’s new and what’s old.

The majority part of the Prada 2 is a 3″ capacitive touchscreen display, pretty much like the one on the iPhone. This means that the contact with the screen is only possible by finger touching, and not with nails or a stylus. Comparing this with the iPhone, we actually feel that the screen is way more sensitive. But, the interface seems to be drowning off the pros of the screen; we will get back to this later.

The display boosts 240 x 400 pixel, WQVGA, and this is common to the early Prada 1 adopters, as they are pretty much the same (2 years ago). Above the screen, there will be the speaker and a forward facing camera for all your video calls. At the lower side of the screen, there are the Call and End/Power Buttons, and a Back Key. The charger and data connector is located on the top of the device. The Micro SD slot can be located on the right hemisphere of the phone. Both connectors are protected by a lid, which will help keep pesky dusts away (The Prada 2 is certainly a dust magnet).

On the side of the Micro SD slot, there is the Camera key, TouchScreen Lock and a Multitasking key.

The rear of the Prada phone is flush with rich black (piano Black). The Camera along side with the LED flash and a small self-portrait mirror are placed in the top left corner, and they are slabbed with some pretty metal.

And well, here comes the back encasing which releases the battery (zero latch), nothing fancy in there, but whats amazing is the battery life. The LG KF900 Prada Battery took us upto 2 days with constant usage. It uses a 950mAh Battery. When we say constant, the boundary includes, calls, text messages, camera snap, Wifi, Bluetooth (with Watch) and some easygoing exploration.

Yes, we love the QWERTY keypad, it feels more physical compared to the iPhone, but beware to those with slightly big fingers, it feels a tad bit cramp, but of course, it’s nothing like the Blackberry’s. The buttons are 7 mm wude and there is 1.5 mm space between them. Sliding the keypad out of the phone flips the phone into landscape mode. And yes, the keypad is illuminated, and it’s friendly and easy to be used in the dark.

Sliding the QWERTY keyboard out, the screen automatically flips landscape mode. Pressing any of the number keys launches the dialing screen. If you slide the keypad back in while dialing, the digits you typed remain on screen so you can pick up where you left.

The next cool addition is Widgets. There are a few pages on the screen, flipping using your fingers, you will be able to flip through and get into the widgets page, which will allow you to customize some easy shortcuts for your essential programs. Pulling/sliding out apps from the bottom of the screen up to the center, shaking it will then arrange the applications. The LG Prada 2 comes with only 7 widgets (sadly), an analog clock, a world time clock, calendar, Music Player, Notes, FM Radio and Image Slideshow. Sadly, new widgets can’t be added.

As we’ve said, texting on this device is ease, pretty fun too. But e-mail – ing is not so fun, why? There is a 1MB sending limit, which means that users can’t send most of the images taken with the 5-megapixel camera. Archive files such as Rar and ZIP are amongst the unsupported file types for attachments.

Talking about the Camera, it comes with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, and that made the picture quality mediocre and sucky video quality. We took 2 pictures and found that the 5 megapixel camera isn’t standing up to its reputation. That said, the video division is on a whole new level of disappointment. The maximum image resolution is 2592 x 1944 pixels; video recording is 720 x 480 at 25 frames per second. We do hope that this could be fix with a few software tweaks.

Looks grainy and tad bit under color.

Now, the Internet Browser, all we can say that it’s slow, sluggish and confusing. Yes there is multi-touch, but the lack of smoothness and stability of the phones interface is causing much havoc. Multi touch or no multi touch, the LG Prada 2 Web browser seems impossible. But with a few extra features e.g., pages, orientation and pinch zoom allows better user interface compared to its predecessor.

The watch is something really fancy, it connects via Bluetooth, connecting both the watch and the phone is ease. Basically, the watch displays text messages, phone calls, and of course, Time. Reading text messages on the watch is ease, and controlling and navigating through the watch seems pretty easy too. We would say that the main catch point of the LG KF900 Prada phone is the Prada Watch. There are only 3 buttons on the watch, the top and bottom buttons helps with navigation and the center button deals a lot with selection. When the phone rings, the watch buzzes too (vibrates as well). But that said, the battery life is shabby. It only lasted less than a week (easy use).

Final Words:

After all, the LG KF900 Prada Phone is a fashion statement, a fashion statement with a lot of goodies packed in it. We want to stress that this phone is a tad bit too expensive (Costs VS Features). Having said that, the goodies don’t hit the mark. The laggy user-interface, and the confusing menu plus some slow response on the phone certainly does put off many users, but as a fashion statement, this phone certainly stands out as the best. If you need better performance and lower price, check out the LG KC910 Renoir.
